The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has announced commencement of 2022 democracy dividend tour.

The exercise, also known as media tour, will start from Lagos State on Monday, fifteenth August 2022, and will cover the thirty-six states of the federation, with participating Journalists drawn from broadcast, print and online media.

In a statement by the National President of NUJ, Chris Isiguzo, the union said the tour is in line with the role of the media in upholding government and it’s officials accountable to the people as a constitutional demand, adding that the media has continued to serve as a veritable tool in showcasing and highlighting the strides, achievements, policies and programmes of government.

He said the media tour will help in deepening democracy by affording Journalists the opportunity to inspect projects being executed in each state of the federation and report accordingly.

During the nationwide media tour, Journalists, according to the statement, will also take time off to participate in interactive session with Governors and their teams, in order to get responses for critical questions that may arise.

This, he said, will enable the union engage with various state governments and set appropriate agenda for development, as well as help the masses form opinions and make informed decisions on issues.
