The Chairman, Anambra State Waste Management Board, Dr. Emma Ezenwaji has called for concerted effort towards making Anambra State clean.

 

Dr. Ezenwaji, who addressed stakeholders including Onitsha North, South and Ogbaru Council Areas Transition Committee chairmen at the Onitsha South Council Area, said the aim of the meeting was to make them aware of Governor Soludo’s directive on refuse disposal warning that the unhealthy state of Onitsha and environs are totally unacceptable, hence the need for intensive cleanup exercise and sensitization on the essence of cleanliness.

He charged chairmen of local governments to develop a work plan with contractors according to their peculiarities in other to achieve result adding that Anambra State Internal Revenue Board is still working on indigenous arrangement for payment of waste disposal even as he declared that next sanitation in Onitsha and Ogbaru would be total.

 

The Managing Director of ASWAMA, Engineer Mike Ozoemena, urged the citizenry to be patriotic and stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse but rather bring them out on routine days for evacuation.

Responding, the Transition Committee chairmen for Onitsha South, Mr. Emeka Orji and his North counterpart, Mr. Onochie Ozoma, affirmed that traders in Onitsha have mapped out Thursday every week as a day of massive clean-up while that of Ogbaru, Mr. Paschal Aniegbuna said that clean environment is a task that must be accomplished, calling for a clear mode of sanitation payment for the people.

 

Welcoming the initiative, the General chairman of Bridge Head Market, Onitsha, Chief Sunday Obinze and the President General of Onitsha, Sir Chike Ekweogu among others, expressed their readiness to support government to make Anambra State clean.
