The Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Youth Empowerment Programmes, Dr Nelson Omenugha has assured the Correctional communities in Anambra state of the commitment of the governor to providing reformational programmes and structured training for the inmates as encapsulated in his People’s manifesto
Dr Omenugha stated this when he joined the members of Onitsha Correctional Center in a worship yesterday as Francis Cardinal Arinze celebrated a Holy Mass in the facility.
The Special Adviser who later embarked on a facility tour of the Center with the Cardinal, the Correctional Center Chaplain, the Controller and officers commended Archbishop of Onitsha, Most Rev Valerian Okeke, for building and equipping a training center for the inmates.
He used the opportunity to seek for partnership with individuals and groups in training and empowering the inmates as part of the grand agenda of Governor Soludo to effectively integrate the inmates into the society on serving out their jail terms and called for various forms of partnership now that the correctional facility serves as an examination center for Junior Secondary School Certificate Examination and National Business for Technical Education Board, (NABTEB).
According to Reverend Father Nnamdi Okpalaugo who is the Prison Chaplain, twenty-five inmates are due for NABTEB examination this year but were unable to register.
The chaplain urged interested persons or groups that want to sponsor the enrolment of the inmates for the examination to reach him on phone number, 0-8-0-3-2-1-8-0-1-8-7.
Dr Omenugha was later presented with a thank you souvenir, which is a hand fan produced by one of the inmates from the chaplaincy.
