The eleventh annual youth forum of Nnokwa Progress Union, NPU Lagos Branch, has been slated for today Saturday, 20th August 2022 at Nnokwa Civic Centre, Ejigbo, Lagos State. The annual forum provides avenue for mentoring and empowerment of young people of Nnokwa extraction. It is a program powered by Nnokwa Progress Union.

 

The first edition of the Youth Forum was held in August, 2010 while Dr. Obiora Chukwuka (Eziafakaego) was Chairman, Nnokwa Progress Union, Lagos Branch. Subsequent administrations including that of Prince Charles Ezeagwu (Ichie Enyi), Bro Innocent Ezennia (nkiti adimma onino) and currently Nze Clement Ezegbunam have upheld the forum haven seen the great impact it has on the youths.

 

This program which is organized by the Education Committee, Nnokwa Progress Union, Lagos Branch which had Engineer Sir Simon Ukpaka as the inaugural chairman has evolved over years. The committee has also been piloted by Reverend Emeka Abone, Engineer Nnamdi Anozie and currently by Engineer Nnaemeka Nwamara. They have worked tirelessly to position youths of the community on a better pedestal to take on tomorrow.

 

The program over the years has focused on youth mentoring, skill acquisition, youth empowerment, counselling, and career guidance. Activities and experiences that help them develop social, ethical, emotional, physical, and cognitive competencies which include ability to analyze their own strengths and weaknesses, set personal and vocational goals, and have self-esteem, confidence and motivation have featured in the forum. Many of the youths have also benefitted directly on many fronts with twenty-two persons receiving scholarship awards for higher education and four others have gone through skill acquisition training and start-up supports. Through the forum, Nnokwa Progress Union has also intervened to ensure that over fifty-two youths from Nnokwa were not posted to crisis prone states for their National Youth Service Corps, NYSC.

 

The Nnokwa Progress Union Lagos Branch Youth Forum is a project of the town Union but has been successfully organized in partnership with nongovernmental and corporate organizations. These include Akachukwu Akonam Foundation, Eziafakaego Foundation, Greenlife Pharmaceuticals Limited, FCMB, Fidelity Bank, Chiko Mario Enterprises, Blueworld Cosmetics, Elbe Pharmacy, Royal Terrace Hotel, Royal Jatoz Hotel, Oramah family and many others.

 

The 2022 Youth Forum has its main topic as Information Technology in an Evolving World. This has become very pertinent since the impact of information technology today and tomorrow can never be over emphasized. It is the new wave propelling the world. The sub themes include E-Marketing, software development and Good Governance and Selection of Good Leaders. A set of experts in the industry comprising Engr. Bonny Mekwunye of KECAM TECH Ltd, Engineer Obi Ibeto of EPINEC Nig Ltd and Sir Similoluwa Abikoye of SMOOTH BROADBAND have been selected to provide thorough coaching of the participants. The occasion promises to be very educative and insightful for the youths in charting the right path in life.
