The Legacy University Okija, Ihiala Council Area has admitted one hundred and fifty new students in its sixth matriculation ceremony
The one hundred and fifty students were given admission to study courses of their choice in the University which is currently offering Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Political Science, Public Administration, Sociology and Mass Communication courses in Faculties of Arts, Social and Management Sciences.
The Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences offers Biochemistry, Chemistry, Computer Science and Microbiology Courses, all fully accredited.
Addressing matriculants for the 2021/2022 academic session, the Pro-Chancellor of the institution, Dr Leonard Nkameme, who is also the Chairman, Governing Council of the school, while commending parents, guardians and the students for making Legacy University Okija their first choice, warned against cultism, exam malpractice, hooliganism and other social vices, and advised students to face their studies for their own good.
Represented by Mr Dickson Obuayano, Dr Nkameme said Legacy University Okija has a peaceful environment architecturally designed for serious academic activities, competent and skilled staff, e-library, and had secured partnership with international universities.
On his part, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the school, Professor Ezekiel Ihionu, represented by Dr Uzonna Ibekwe, said efforts are being made to establish more faculties and offer more courses, adding that management of the institution is grateful to God for raising notable individual of great reputations as their benefactors.
Professor Ihionu appealed to Anambra State government to support the institution by constructing access roads to the school, even as he congratulated the matriculants, urging them to be of good behavior.
The Acting Register of the University, Dr Blessing-Mike Obialo, earlier presented the matriculants for official admission, after which she administered oath of obedience to the new students.
In her remark, the Dean Student Affairs of the University, Mrs Chinyere Ibeh, noted that Legacy University is the university of the moment, and encouraged parents to enroll their children to study in the school as according to her, their tuition fee is the least in the country, and can be paid in instalments, adding that the University keeps twenty-four hours surveillance on the students , who all live in the school hostels, which she noted is why it is impossible for any of them to play truancy .
Earlier in a homily during holy mass that marked commencement of the matriculation ceremony, the Parish Priest of Saint Patrick Catholic Church Okija, and Students’ Chaplain, Reverend Father Ethelbert Ofonatuora, advised the students to study hard, anchor their faith in God, and endeavor to be ambassadors of the institution at all times.
The event featured cultural dance by the matriculants.
