The Transition Committee Chairman, Dunukofia Local Government Area, Mr. Augustine Onyemaobi has tasked people of the council area to keep their environment clean.

 

Mr. Onyemaobi, who gave the task while cleaning Afor-Igwe Market, Umudioka, during yesterday’s sanitation exercise with the traders, described environmental cleanliness and personal hygiene as key to healthy living.

He observed that the traders complied with the monthly sanitation exercise as directed by Governor Chukwuma Soludo to guarantee a peaceful, prosperous and livable mega city.

 

On his part, the chairman of Afor-Igwe Market, Mr. Denis Okwuosa expressed appreciation to Mr. Onyemaobi for taking the lead in environmental cleanliness within the council area, assuring that they will always comply with the monthly sanitation exercise to safeguard their health and ensure the realization of Governor Soludo’s vision.

ABS observed that traders closed their shops and participated actively in the exercise, while commercial bus drivers, who defied the sanitation law were forced to participate by Dunukofia council enforcement team.

 

At Ifitedunu junction and Afor-Ukwulu, traders around the area complied as they locked their shops, swept their surroundings and cleaned the gutters in front of their shops.

 

In an interview, the Head, Environment and Sanitation Department, Dunukofia Local Government Area, Lady Ifeoma Okonkwo, who sensitized the people on the essence of keeping their surroundings clean, urged them to desist from dumping refuse inside drainages but keep them at appropriate places for proper evacuation.
