The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC, in collaboration with Enugu State Post Primary School Management Board, PPSMB, has concluded plans to set up Young Consumers Club in all the secondary schools in Enugu State.
This came to the fore, when the FCCPC South-East Zonal Office Team, led by its Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Anthony Nwafor, paid an advocacy visit to the chairman, Post Primary School Management Board, Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Ugwuanyi, in her office at Enugu State.
In his speech, Mr. Nwafor announced that the visit was aimed at sensitizing young consumers in secondary schools on their rights and responsibilities as consumers as contained under the FCCP Act of 2018.
He stated that the commission was established to among other things organize or undertake campaigns and other forms of activities capable of promoting increased private and public consumer awareness.
In her welcome speech, Dr. Mrs. Ugwuanyi commended the FCCPC for its zeal and determination to reach out to the young ones, especially those at the rural areas.
She stated that FCCPC’s Young Consumer Club in secondary schools will also aid in educating the dwellers on their rights and responsibilities as consumers through the knowledge the club will impact on the students and teachers.
Highlights of the visit were the presentation of educational materials to the board chairman, and the sensitization of senior and junior secondary school students present at the opening ceremony of the Holiday Skill Acquisition Programme, organized by the board on the mandates and functions of the commission by the FCCPC team.
