The state Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Sir Nobert Obi, has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for providing conducive environment for various communities to celebrate new yam festival.

 

Paul Ezeoke reports that speaking in Awka, Sir Nobert noted that restoration of security across the state enables the people to come together to celebrate the festival.

 

 

The APGA State Chairman expressed satisfaction that the tempo of socioeconomic activities has increased to full swing and businesses are fast picking up.

 

He said new yam festivalremains important celebration in Igboland that promote cultural heritage of Ndigbo and encourage agricultural activities, and urged communities to use the festival to sensitize their people on need to give Soludo administration all necessary support and encouragement to achieve its vision for the state.

 

Also speaking, a community leader, Chief Henry Igboeli, said new yam festival is a celebration of hard work and God’s blessings to various communities, as well as opportunity to highlight Igbo cultural activities, noting that Igbo cultural heritage is very rich to attract tourists from various parts of the world.

 

Chief Igboeli noted that the festival is also a call to farmers to do more in the next farming season to feed the society, while more people are encouraged to be involved in agricultural activities to enable the state and the country achieve food security and reduce burden of importation, thereby helping to rebuild the nation’s economy.

 

He stressed the need for more empowerment of youths through financial grants and interest-free loans to enable them invest in agricultural schemes that would help solve problems of unemployment and reduce challenge of crime and social vices.
