Anambra State Government has promised to critically look into the executive gazette that changed the name of Nkerehi town to Umuchukwu.

 

The state Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr Collins Nwabunwanne, who disclosed this in a meeting with some stakeholders from the town in his office at Government House Awka, also explained to the stakeholders that government has laid down processes that are observed before letter of recognition is presented to any traditional ruler.

 

He pointed out that Governor Chukwuma Soludo is passionate about restoring peace and normalcy in all communities in the state, and promised that government will wade into the Nkerehi/Umuchukwu crisis to forestall breakdown of law and order, assuring that Governor Chukwuma Soludo is committed to using laid down rules and order to achieve desired result.

In their separate remarks, Igwe Mathias Anyadiegwu, President General of Nkerehi, Mr Arinze Igwike, Barrister Basil Igwike, among others, explained to the Commissioner that Nkerehi people want the Governor to look into the crisis in their town and restore lasting peace and stability.

 

The stakeholders also expressed opinion that when two factions in the community are reconciled, a traditional ruler can freely be chosen; in line with laid down procedures.
