The South-East Zonal office of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC, has concluded plans to collaborate with Anambra State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, to protect the rights of consumers.

 

They also agreed to remove from the markets, hazardous products through enforcement exercises.

 

The agreement was sealed when the South-East Zonal team of the FCCPC, led by its coordinator, Mr. Anthony Nwafor paid an advocacy visit to the Anambra State Commandant of NSCDC, Mr.Chukwudi Chikere in his office in Awka.

 

Speaking during the visit , Mr. Nwafor explained that FCCPC as a federal agency, was saddled with the responsibility of promoting and protecting the consumers’ interests in a competitive market environment.

He unveiled their mission of collaborating with the Corps’ for a joint public awareness campaign through the officers.

 

Mr. Nwafor prioritised provision of security coverage during operations in markets and companies among others within the state as major area of synergy.

 

Responding, Commandant Chikere lauded FCCPC for its zeal and determination in protecting unsuspecting consumers from unethical practices by some traders, manufacturers and service providers which according to him, are not in the best interest of consumers.

 

The commandant also assured the FCCPC team of their readiness to provide security when the need arises, as well as aiding in investigations, gathering and sharing of intelligence reports, since both agencies have the same mandate to protect lives and properties of Nigerian Consumers.

 

Highlight of the visit was presentation of educational materials to the commandant.
