Governor Chukwuma Soludo has inaugurated the first ever Telemedicine Hub in Anambra State.
The centre is cited at the Comprehensive Medical Centre, Awkuzu, Oyi local government area of the State.
The Governor, in his address, identified the project as very important in achieving universal health coverage in the state, and reaffirmed his commitment towards giving Ndi Anambra the best health services.
He commended the people of Awkuzu community for the Comprehensive Medical Centre they built, adding that community-private, public partnership model will fast track development in the state.
In his remark, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, noted that the idea behind the Telemedicine Hub was to enable hard-to-reach communities access healthcare services without much stress, and maintained that the Soludo-led government is technology-driven, and that the health sector is not left out.
He thanked the Governor for making the project possible through his support.
Present at the event were the traditional ruler of Awkuzu, Professor Charles Anikweze, Archbishop Emeritus, Most Reverend Maxwell Anikwenwa, APGA Candidate for Oyi and Ayamelum Federal Constituency, Lady Maureen Gwacham, APGA Candidate for Oyi State Constituency, Sir Innocent Ojike.
Other dignitaries include the Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital Amaku Awka, Dr Joe Akabuike, the Managing Director and Chief Executive officer of Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, ASHIA, Dr Simeon Onyemaechi, while commissioning of the Telemedicine Hub, unveiling and inspection of facility therein climaxed the event.
