Anambra State Government has expressed its readiness to employ dialogue in resolving communal crisis in the state.

 

The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr. Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne disclosed this when delegates of the United Nations Peace and Positive Living Awareness Centre, UN-PEPOLAC, paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the government house, Awka.

Commissioner Nwabunwanne, who observed that majority of the crisis in communities across the state were caused by the inability of previous governments to give members of the communities a listening ear, said that the present government of Professor Chukwuma Soludo values the opinion of every citizen of the state and does not joke with dialogue, which he described as a major tool for conflict resolution.

 

He noted that the present administration holds rule of law in high revered, and will make the state’s residents irrespective of status, to obey the law for the enthronement of peace and tranquility, even as he assured that the state government, through the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, will partner UN-PEPOLAC in terms of conflict resolution in its quest to restoring peace in the state.

Speaking earlier, the UN-PEPOLAC International Coordinator, Nigeria, Reverend Dr Ozioma Ozoemena while explaining that the organization which was established in 2008 is committed to promoting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and UNESCO Culture of Peace Project and Positive Living, noted that for there to be effective and sustainable development and progress in any society, there must be peace.

 

Describing the state Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs as the heart of government as it has direct link with the people and communities, expressed hope that the state government will through the ministry achieve relative peace across the state.

In a vote of thanks, the traditional ruler of Ifitedunu Community, Igwe Chukwuemaka Ilouno thanked the commissioner for the warm reception, and promised to use his new position to achieve a lot for the state especially as it concerns restoration of peace.

 

The visit climaxed with a special prayer session for the commissioner, Anambra State, Nigeria, and the world in general.
