The people of Ayamelum Local government area and commuters have been trapped by a heavy flood disaster that occurred in the area.
Investigation showed that the flood disaster was caused by heavy rainfalls that overflew Igbariam-Ezu River bank.
on arrival, ABS crew discovered that the flood disaster submerged Onitsha-Otuocha-Omor- Adani road, leading to Ayamelum Local government, which threw residents into distress.
Commuters were seen stranded at the bus stops in Anaku with little or no means of transportation as motorists who did not want to be trapped inside the flood avoided the road.
Commenting on the incident after on-the-spot assessment of the damage caused by the flood disaster by boat, the Transition Committee Chairman of Ayamelum Local government area, Chief Livinus Onyenwe lamented that the incident destroyed their entire farmlands, submerged buildings, trapped their people and urged the National Emergency Management Agency and the Anambra State government to come to their said by assisting victims of the ugly incident with relief materials to cushion the effects of the disaster on them.
On his part, a native of Anaku who was affected by the development, Mr. John Anigbogu regretted that the incident has grounded their economic activities as the people of Ayamelum who are predominantly farmers could not farm since the incident occurred and appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency and Anambra State Emergency Management Agency to provide them with boats for the running of their daily activities since the only access road in the area has been blocked.
Entrapped commuter, Lady Okwudili Ndukaife called on the state government to come to their aid, while a commercial bus driver who plies the route , Mr. Abuchi Umeh regretted that he has recorded setbacks in his business as a result of the ugly development.
