Ndigbo have been charged to support the efforts of building a credible leadership in town unions that will improve their living conditions.
The Vice President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo worldwide, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene gave the charge at the 2022 Igbo Day celebration and award ceremony held in Awka.
Chief Okeke-Ogene while saying that the ceremony was aimed at remembering Ndigbo who were massacred on September twenty-ninth,1966 while returning from Northern Nigeria urged Ndigbo to come together and reintegrate into the Nigerian system.
Chief Okeke-Ogene urged Nigerians to support the President of Igbo extraction as Ndigbo have served the country well and have the best candidate for the job in the interest of fairness and Justice.
On his part, the President of Ohaneze Ndigbo in Anambra State Chief Chukwuemeka Udodeme who lamented that living condition of Ndigbo in Nigeria is pathetic revealed that the gathering served as a platform for Ndigbo to properly articulate their collective aspirations in the political leadership of Nigeria.
Speaking on the theme of the ceremony which is “Ariri Akaria,the position of the Igbo person, a resource person, Chief Chris Okoye regretted that since after the civil war, Igbo people have many defining moments which resulted in lack of economic, social and political progress in the South East.
A one time Senator for Anambra Central Senatorial District, Chief Ben Ndi-Obi also attributed the pathetic condition of Ndigbo in Nigeria to lack of unity of purpose occasioned by weak leadership and called for the establishment of a strong and respected town unions that will enjoy a lot of goodwill for them to muster support in building a united and progressive Igbo race.
In a remark, the Managing Director of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, Sir Chido Obidiegwu stressed the need for Ndigbo to come together and support a presidential candidate of Igbo extraction who will reposition Nigeria and improve the living conditions of the people.
