The saving hands of God was at work yesterday at the popular Aroma Junction, Awka, as a tanker driver prevented scores of death and injuries by diverting his truck to the pavement of Aroma flyover where it fell sideways.

No life was lost, but the driver and conductor sustained some injuries.

When a crew from Anambra Broadcasting Service, arrived the scene of the incident, it was gathered that the vehicle with the registration of number ‘UKP771XA’ was conveying a soap oil from Amansea to Onitsha, before the incident took place.

Speaking to journalists, the tanker driver, Mr. Kevin Ogu from Imo State, who thanked God that no life was lost, blamed a driver of a fully loaded bus for stopping in front of him after the traffic regulator from Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency had given them signal to move.

He said that after he had tried several attempts to stop his vehicle, his brake failed him, adding that instead of diverting the tanker at the busy park at the junction which would have caused much death, he moved it to the pavement of the flyover where it fell.

The content which spilled on the road in front of ABS Corporate Headquarters caused another accident that led to the summersault of a school bus.

According to eyewitnesses, Ms Ngozika Emesiana and Mr Chinedu Nwaka the tanker driver tried his best to save the situation, thereby diverting his vehicle to the other end and thanked the Anambra State Fire Service for its prompt response.

Reacting to the incident , the Managing Director of Anambra State Fire Service, Engineer Martin Agbili, who spoke through a staff of the service, Mr. Maduka Onuchukwu said they intervened as a result of emergency calls by some public spirited individuals, thanking Governor Soludo and the Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency for not allowing drivers load passengers along Aroma road which would have led to loss of lives.l
