Anambra Governor’s wife, Mrs Nonye Soludo says government alone cannot stop issues of domestic abuse and violence in the state.

The governor’s wife, who stated this in Awka, explained that for the abhorrent trends to be eliminated, everyone including those going through them must show better action and honest concern.

Mrs Soludo stated that where the victims cover up for their abusers or play dumb, dealing with the issue becomes difficult for authorities, and often times the victims do not survive the turbulence.

She noted that the first step to tackling cases of abuse and domestic violence is by opening up, urging those who notice signs of such incidents in homes, schools, offices or any place, to report to legal authorities or reach out to the Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare.

The governor’s wife, who emphasized that Anambra State is no playground for abusers, pledged her commitment to see to full justice for any reported case of abuse and domestic violence, especially one that affects women, children and girls.

Mrs Soludo also expressed displeasure with the growing reports of abuse of servants by their supposed guardians, sexual abuse of children, rape, as well as molestation and torture of women, and said the society must respond to the carnage by re-developing an unfavourable social system for those that bear the immoral intent.

She commended the recent introduction of a special magistrate court in Anambra State, that looks exclusively into cases of sexual and domestic abuses and related crimes, stating that she has high hopes that while expediting the processes of prosecution, the new court would also help by delivering verdicts that send a deterrent signal to would-be offenders and help sanitize the state’s social environment.

Mrs Soludo, while reassuring that her husband’s administration is building a state that gives equal opportunity for every Anambra resident to thrive, however, promised that the law would be severe with those who want to alter the tide of morality.
