Speakers at the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Labour and Civil Society Organizations, CSOs, Relations Summit, have affirmed that partnership among the groups is key to the betterment of the Nigerian Society.
The speakers and participants were drawn from Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, CSOs, Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, the media, National Orientation Agency, Independent National Electoral Commission among others.
The programme, held at the Godwin Ezemo NUJ Secretariat Awka, provided the attendees the opportunity to brainstorm on how the groups can partner to champion their course for a better society.
In his remark, the chairman on the occasion, Comrade Anthony Ugozor, noted that the summit, which is first of its kind, came at a time everybody is yearning for a positive change in the history of Nigerian Nation.
Comrade Ugozor, a former state chairman of NLC, explained that it is through Media Relations that people get to know happenings around them.
In his comments, the chairman, NUJ, Anambra State Council, Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, who described the media as the conscience of the society, said no one, who does things right is afraid of the media and no well-trained journalist publishes falsehood.
While noting that the programme is special and for selected people, Dr Odogwu, pointed out that the media, Labour and CSOs are partners in progress, stressing the need for collaboration among them in order to champion the course that will better the society.
The keynote speaker, Dr Peter Okoye, who harped on the concept of the event, commended journalists for doing a good job but frowned at those, who deviate from what journalism is all about.
For the Director General, Dozie Nwankwo Foundation, Mr. Ayodele Obiadi, politicians suffer a lot in the hands of social media handlers but commended the professional journalists for righting the wrongs of social media handlers.
In a vote of thanks, the chairman, NUJ Labour Relations Committee, Comrade Abuchi Onwumelu, expressed joy over the turn out of the event that was organized by the NUJ Labour Committee in collaboration with Dozie Nwankwo Foundation and featured question and answer session.
The theme of the event was “Media Relations for Progressive Trade Unionism/Civil Society Actions in Nigeria.”
