The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has flagged off the 2022 Ember Months Safety Campaign of the Federal Road Safety Corps.

 

The ember month safety campaign is a nationwide programme by the FRSC targeted at increasing awareness on safe road practices during the ember months.

the flag-off in Anambra is hosted by the State Command of the Corps and has as its theme, “avoid speeding, overloading and unsafe tyres to arrive alive”.

 

Flagging off the campaign in Awka, Governor Soludo represented by the Commissioner for Transport, Barrister Patricia Igwebuike, commended FRSC for the programme aimed at reducing road crashes and saving lives in the state.

The Governor warned motorists and Ndi Anambra to be cautious while using the road, obey rules guiding driving, and condemned carrying infants at the front of vehicles.

 

While acknowledging the efforts of the state government towards provision of patrol and other operational logistics that have been aiding the Corps in achieving its mandates, the FRSC Zonal Commanding Officer in-charge of Anambra, Delta and Edo states, Mr. Chukwuma Njoku explained that the ember months campaign is a homegrown operational approach evolved by FRSC to mitigate the traffic challenges associated with increased human activities and vehicular movements in this period.

In their remarks, the traditional ruler of Awka Community, Obi Gibson Nwosu represented by a member of his cabinet, Chief Nweze Okoli, Popular Onitsha – based Pastor, Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, and the Corporate Affairs Manager of International Breweries, Mr. Damian Igwe, pleaded with Ndi Anambra to start saving their lives as it has no duplicate, while pledging their support to FRSC.

 

Earlier in his address, the Anambra State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr. Adeoye Irelewuyi, said that the choice of theme for the ember months campaign is apt and inclusive to cover the three road traffic crash main causative factors which includes speeding, overloading and use of unsafe tyres, while seeking the cooperation of Ndi Anambra to key into the strategic programme of the Corps this period to reduce the rate of fatalities on the roads.,

The event which attracted various Service Chiefs and stakeholders in the transportation sector as well as the Special Marshals in the state under its state coordinator, Mr. Patrick Esumai, featured cutting of campaign ribbon.
