Wife of the governor of Anambra State, Nonye Soludo, has urged those displaced by flood and taking shelter in different Holding Centers across the state to hold unto hope and never allow the current predicament to defeat them.

Mrs. Soludo gave the encouragement when she visited hundreds of people taking shelter at Unity Hall, Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area.

Addressing occupants of the center, Mrs. Soludo explained that she understood their present hardships, but urged them to stick to hope.

While reassuring them of every support that they need while still at the center, Mrs. Soludo, who added that government is doing everything to ensure their welfare, also laid emphasis on special care for pregnant and nursing women, children and the elderly, and asked them to always sleep under mosquito nets which were given to them.

She also commended those providing humanitarian services at the center, including officials of World Health Organization, WHO and Anambra State Ministry of Health among others, and asked them to take hygiene seriously and monitor the health condition of people in the camps to avoid any health emergency.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike in an interview, said that the Governor’s wife’s visit has rekindled hope for the people in the center, providing them with both material and emotional support to overcome the difficult time.

Dr Obidike explained that the state government has been doing a lot to ensure that those in the camp are well taken care of, with adequate food and medical provisions.

Mrs. Soludo visited the center with food and medical aids, and gave pregnant women med packs for their hygiene and sanitary conditions.
