The metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, Most Reverend Valerian Okeke has been described as a good shepherd who cares for his flock.

 

Governor Chukwuma Soludo stated this during the Archbishop’s sixty-ninth birthday which he celebrated with the inmates of Correctional Center in Onitsha.

 

Iit attracted Archbishop’s family, government officials, friends, and well-wishers.

Governor Soludo who was represented by the Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh noted that Archbishop Okeke has been discharging his pastoral duties with love, tolerance and vigor.

 

He called on parents and guardians to always equip their children and wards with the much-needed educational materials in school, teach them how to pray, uphold moral values and confidence as well as good relationship with fellow students to excel in Life.

In a homily to mark his birthday, Most Reverend Okeke, called on the inmates of the Correctional Centre to always thank God for life and opportunity to know God.

 

He stated that God has not forgotten anybody and called on the congregation to always forgive one another, stop regretting or taking revenge, as well as remember the poor as a way of giving thanks to God.

Appreciating Archbishop Okeke for celebrating his sixty-ninth birthday with them, the Chaplain of the Onitsha Correctional Center, Reverend Father Bartholomew Okpalaugo assured him of constant prayers from the inmates.

 

In his speech the Controller of Correctional Center in Anambra State Mr Patrick Chukwuemeka who extolled Archbishop Okeke for his yearly felicitations prayed God to bless and give him fruitful years ahead as he shepherds his flock.

In attendance were the Bishop Emeritus of Nnewi Diocese, Most Reverend Hillary Okeke, the Chancellor of Onitsha Catholic Archdiocese, Very Reverend Father Emeka Aroh, among others.
