Youths of Onitsha extraction have celebrated their 2022 Ofala carnival.

 

 

 

The event which attracted youths from various villages in Onitsha showcased the rich cultural heritage of the community.

 

 

 

Correspondent Emengini Osadebe reports that the youths marched round various Streets of the town dancing in admiration of the people.

 

 

 

The youths drawn from the nine villages that make up the town were all dressed in different attires representing different constituent leadership structure in Onitsha which include the Obi of Onitsha, Ndi Ichie Onitsha, Agbalanze Onitsha, Ndi Diokpa, Ndi Otu Odu, Ikporo Onitsha, Egbenuoba among others.

 

 

 

The Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe in a speech, described this year’s Youth carnival as the best so far and prayed God for the unity and peaceful co-existence of Onitsha people.

 

 

 

Speaking to the ABS at Imeobi Ogbeoza, the Onitsha National Youth President, Mr Ernest Offish said the youths of Onitsha decided to hold the carnival in honor of Igwe Alfred Achebe showing the world that they are happy that the throne of Ezechima is been celebrated, describing Igwe Achebe as a father to all who values the welfare of his subjects.

 

 

 

On his part, the Chairman Planning Committee of the Carnival, Mr Onyekachi Chukwura said the essence of the carnival was to create awareness for the Ofala festival and called on the youths to always identify with their culture.

 

 

 

Contributing, the Lady Organizer Anambra State Association of Town Unions and Onitsha Youth Council Mrs Chizoba Ikwueme, who described Ofala as one of the best things that has happened to Onitsha, calling on the youths to be of good behaviour, remain focused and committed.

 

 

Highpoint of the carnival was a Royal dance, while the presence of a frontline Mobile Telecommunication industry Globacom Limited was also felt at the venue of the event.
