Achalla Community in Awka North Local Government Area has Introduced Lecture Series to precede its Annual New Yam Celebration with the aim of fostering unity and development while providing avenue to discuss global issues.
The annual lecture series to be called ‘Joseph Ndubuisi Nwokedi Lecture Series’ which will precede the New Yam celebration of the community by its traditional ruler, Igwe Ositadinma Nwokedi will commence next year.
The traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Nwokedi explained that the lecture series, which is in honor of his late grandfather, will among other things foster unity, love and civic engagement between Achalla and the international community in diverse topical areas, which will centre on culture, historical perspectives and other topical issues.
Igwe Nwokedi also noted that the event will also serve as a meeting point between Achalla and the world and bring about development and progress to the community.
The Member representing Awka North constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Chief John Nwokoye, who is also the traditional Prime Minister of Achalla remarked that the lecture series will help Achalla in various ways, especially as it concerns education and will motivate the youths to progress.
Earlier in a key note address, Professor Sylvanus Ekwelie of the University of Nigeria Nsukka gave an outline of the biography of Joseph Ndubuisi Nwokedi, the grandfather of the current traditional ruler, who he pointed out brought progress and development to the community especially through education and communal efforts.
Also, the Palace Secretary, Chief Patrick Nworah said the lecture series will serve as a link between the past and the present.
