The Family Health International of the Global Fund has donated Health Kits to Anambra State for adolescent women and children.
The commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Honourable Ify Obinabo, on behalf of the state government, received the items at her office in Awka.
Speaking before the presentation, the senior program officer, Global Fund National Aligned HIV/AIDS Initiative Project, Mr. Henry Udenenwu, noted that Nigeria as a country is both donor and recipient of the global fund, noting that it is the grant that covers the scope of general population including young women and children.
In her speech, Leah Umeokeke explained that the initiative is aimed at reducing the risk of contracting HIV/AIDS among adolescents and also bring to the barest minimum Sexually Transmitted Diseases, STDs.
Responding, Honourable Obinabo appreciated them for the support and assured of more collaboration.
She urged the team to also organize a seminar for social workers in different local government areas of the state to help Sexual and Gender Based Violence Response Team in their duty.
The intervention, which is done in stages, is targeted at addressing some of the risk factors dominant in young ones such as biological, behavioral and structural factors.
Items donated were HIV self-test kits, packs of male and female condoms, Sanitary Pads and Umbrellas among others.
Handover of the items to Honourable Obinabo, climaxed the visit.
