Federal Government says all development must be hinged on Science Technology and Innovation for sustainability as Basic Sciences, reduces human efforts and time in production whereas productivity is increased and sustained.

 

The Minister of Science Technology and Innovation, Dr Adeleke Mamora, who stated this, at the World Science Day for Peace and Development in Abuja, said that the celebration underscores the relationship between science and development.

The celebration, which normally takes place on November twenty-second across the globe, also aims at creating awareness on how science contributes to sustainable development, international solidarity, international collaboration in sciences for the benefit of mankind, as well as raising support to battle challenges that basic sciences face.

 

Speaking at the event, the Minister said, the theme for the 2022 edition “Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development’’, is apt as there can be no growth and development of any nation without the appropriate utilization of science.

 

Dr. Mamora, stressed that evidence shows it has worked in many developed and developing countries, where resources are invested in science, technology and innovation.

According to the Minister, President Muhammadu Buhari’s Administration recognizes the important role Science, Technology and Innovation plays in the dire need of socio-economic development and has shown support to the sector, through enabling the first meeting of the National Research and Innovation Council since its creation.

 

He encouraged Nigerians to support the World Science Day for Peace and Development, by encouraging Researchers, Scientists, Engineers, Inventors and Innovators to do more by investing in Science, Technology and Innovation sector.
