Anambra State Government says it is resuscitating all the abandoned public hospitals to bring quality and accessible healthcare closer to everyone.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, stated this at Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area, while taking delivery of vital hospital equipment on behalf of the state government, donated for use at Agulu General Hospital, by the National Lottery Trust Fund.
They include examination gush, autoclave machine, suction machine, microscopic binoculars, ultrasound machine, anesthesia machine, among others.
General Hospital Agulu, is one of the dilapidated public health facilities that the present administration is getting back to work.
Speaking while receiving the equipment, Dr Obidike said the equipment would be very vital in both testing and treatment of critical illnesses, noting that Governor Chukwuma Soludo is conscious of the importance of strategic health system to governance, hence the recruitment of additional health professionals to complement the current work force and refurbishment of hitherto dilapidated facilities.
He noted that with the equipment in the hospital, community people would no longer seek healthcare services elsewhere and assured that services at the hospital would be made affordable to the community people.
On his part, the Transition Committee chairman, Anaocha Council Area, Chief Gerald Ozo, thanked Dr Stella Maduka, a former director at the Federal Ministry of Special Duties, for facilitating the gesture thereby responding to the direct needs of her people.
The South East Zonal Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund, Mrs. Jane Obi, who read an address by the Executive Secretary of the organization, Dr Bello Maigari, said that the equipment were donated based on the primary needs of the hospital.
Dr Maigari also urged the community to protect the equipment as their own, explaining that the aim of the scheme is to achieve the wellbeing of all Nigerians by decentralizing accessibility to good healthcare across rural Nigeria.
The member representing Anaocha One Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Honourable Ebere Ejiofor, was at the event.
