Plans are underway by Anambra State Government to seek partnership with development partners and the federal government to tackle erosion sites in the state.
The state Commissioner for Environment, Engineer Felix Odimegwu, disclosed this while defending the 2023 budget proposal of the ministry before the Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Environment in Awka.
House of Assembly Correspondent Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that the environment commissioner emphasized that Anambra State Government will adopt such approach to address erosion menace ravaging parts of the state as the 2023 state budget is not enough to arrest ecological problems confronting it.
He said that the ministry will also sensitize Ndi Anambra on the need to take full care of their environment and ensure strict implementation of policies and regulations of the environment to prevent erosion in the state.
The Commissioner also disclosed that Anambra State will key into national policies and international agenda towards the environment by increasing tree planting, afforestation, preservation of Anambra State Foreign Reserves to maintain the diversity and ecosystem of the environment.
In his remark, the chairman of Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Environment, Honourable Edward Ibuzo, charged the ministry to embark on aggressive desilting of drainages across the state to avert flooding and fix major potholes that could cause erosion.
Meanwhile, the Managing Director, Anambra State Road Maintenance Agency, Mr. Obinna Nduka, has assured the state assembly committee on works that the failed potions of Anambra Roads will be fixed before the yuletide.
He gave the assurance during a bilateral interaction with the committee on 2023 budget estimate of the agency.
