A fulfilled life of service to God and humanity leaves memories for posterity; even after one’s journey to the great beyond.

 

Such was the story of the life and times of ninety-year-old Late Chief Francis Maduka of Umudinkwa Umudim Nnewi, whose relatives, associates, friends and well-wishers from the state and beyond gathered to pay him last respect.

Late Chief Maduka was a member of the Knight of Saint John International, and a well-known personality in his community, which earned him ‘Akaekpuchife Nnewi’.

 

Staff reporter, Odinaka Nwolisareports that the burial mass for the deceased was presided over by the Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Most Reverend Jonas Benson Okoye; assisted by the Auxiliary Bishop of Abuja Archdiocese, Most Reverend Anselem Umeorum, among other clergy men.

In his homily at the funeral mass held in his family compound, Most Reverend Okoye reminded Christians of the need to be conscious and severe relationship with God.

 

Acknowledging the deceased as an averred Christian who defended his faith and helped in advancement of the gospel, the Bishop equally observed that the deceased excellent records are worthy of note.

In his remark, the first son of the deceased, Chief Chris Maduka, described his father as an icon and a disciplinarian; whose sterling qualities were second to none, adding that his death has created a big vacuum in the larger family.

 

Eulogizing the virtues of her late father, the first daughter of the deceased, Lady Monica Okwuosa, maintained that ‘Akaekpuchife Nnewi’ was an epitome of humility; whose penchant for humanitarian and charity works was unparalleled.

For the daughters-in-law, Dr Stella and Barrister Mackys Maduka, the deceased was a family man whose legacies will remain ever green in the history of the family.

 

Speaking on behalf of the grandchildren, Miss Ada Maduka said the family takes pride accomplishments made by the deceased, adding that he left his foot prints on the sands of time.

 

Condoling with the family, a stakeholder, Professor Obiora Okonkwo, and a one- -time President General of Nzuko Ora Nnewi, Chief Francis Udemezue, said Late Chief Maduka’s life was a testament of good deeds, while a member of Knight of Saint John International and former Commissioner for Environment in the state, Honourable Evaristus Uba, encouraged the Maduka family to uphold the legacies of the deceased.

Different groups and in-laws took turns to commiserate with the bereaved family at the funeral ceremony that featured various dance groups.
