Journalists have been charged to be fair and credible in their reportage.

 

Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Sir Paul Nwosu, who gave the advice while declaring open the 2022 symposium of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Anambra State chapter, held at NUJ Secretariat Awka, reminded journalists that their roles and jobs are anchored on accuracy and objectivity.

In his keynote address at the event, Commissioner Nwosu emphasized that Anambra stands tall as a case study in objective use of traditional media in marketing state policy.

 

He said that Governor Chukwuma Soludo is charged with the policy of disruptive change that engages media positively, urging the media to support the current administration; as according to him, Anambra State is attracting more attention like never before.

On his part, a guest speaker at the event and the former governorship candidate in Anambra, Professor Obiora Okonkwo, who spoke on “the role of media in guaranteeing the sanctity of the electoral process in Nigeria” said it is unlawful and undemocratic for people to attack candidates of opposition political parties, insisting that everyone has the right to opinionate or criticize.

 

Chairman of Correspondents’ Chapel of the NUJ, Chief Chucks Ilozue, described the symposium as one targeted at sharing ideas for the good of the society.

Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service, Sir Chido Obidiegwu, called on journalists to work within the ambit of their ethics.

 

Traditional ruler of Igbakwu community in Ayamelum Local Government Area, Professor Onuorah Nwuneli, Press Secretary to Governor Soludo, Mr. Christian Aburime, Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Echeng ECheng, represented by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, among others, participated at the event.
