Chief Emeka Nwosu has been initiated into the prestigious Ozo Awka Society with the title ‘Ozo Beeke.
At the ceremonial initiation of Chief Nwosu of Umunnoke village, Awka, Awka South Local Government Area, into the esteemed Ozo Awka society, the expensive nature and glamour of receiving the title were on display.
In Igboland, the ozo title is regarded as a very prestigious status, and those who hold it demonstrate that they have attained a particular level of social standing as well as being respected and trusted for their contributions to society.
Ozo title holders are believed to uphold the highest standards of integrity, truth, and morality.
Ndi Ozo Awka, conferred the title on the celebrant after the customary breaking of the kola nut.
They prayed for him and also said that being initiated gives the celebrant greater responsibility in family and community affairs and urged him to be steadfast and honest.
After eighty years without an ozo holder in the family, Ozo Nwosu, who was initiated into the Ozo Awka society alongside his wife, Mrs. Ebele Nwosu, said they were delighted at finally realizing his dream of joining the society, saying
that he would use the title’s influence to stand up for justice and truth in his community and thanked God and the community for the honor.
His cousin, Mrs. Uwaegbunam Onwudinjo and his friend Mr Afunwa Elotanna thanked God for making the day a possibility, and advised him to be calm, humble and truthful in all his doings.
In an interview, Chief Ajuluchukwu Nzekwe and Chief Ndubuisi Igwebuike, noted that the celebrant is a good man of high standard and charisma, advising him to keep upholding good ethics as the title is a way to spur individuals to develop the society.
The ceremony featured the initiation rites and customary dance among others.
