As government at various levels grapple with the reality of economic recession, Anambra State Head of Service, Barrister Harry Udu has called for the understanding of the organized labour and workers generally with the State government.
He made this appeal while responding to the address of the executive of the Anambra State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Civil Service Secretarial and Stenographic workers who paid him a courtesy call in his office at Chief Jerome Udoji Secretariat Complex in Awka.
According to the Head of Service, much as the State Governor, Chief Dr. Willie Obiano was very well disposed to satisfying the peculiar needs of the various cadres in the State Public Service, his good intentions are often hampered by the grim economic conditions facing the Nation as a result of continual drop in oil prices in the world market.
He however assured that the governor has good plans for workers in the coming year.
The Head of Service, who enumerated some of the numerous good gestures extended to workers by the [present administration, urged workers to give maximum support to the governor now and in the future.
Barrister Udu expressed joy at the choice of Anambra State as venue for the 2017 National Conference of the Union, describing the development as one of the fruits of the robust security network put in place by the State Governor which makes the State the most secured and preferred destination for hosting of national and international conferences.
Earlier in his speech, the State Chairman of the Union, Comrade Festus Uche Nwoye recalled the support extended to his Union by the Head of Service during their 2015 State Delegates conference and solicited more support from him in the training needs of their members.
He also called for the recruitment of more young Secretarial officers and implementation of the Responsibility Allowance newly approved by the Federal government for members of the Union.
