Governor Willie Obiano has inaugurated the newly completed Utility building of the State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB.
Government House Correspondent Kenechukwu Ofomah was at ASUBEB Headquarters in Awka where the ceremony took place and reports that the two storeyed building has two multipurpose Halls, office rooms and conveniences.
Inaugurating the completed building, Governor Obiano said it is the resolve of his administration to ensure that the State remains the first in education in the country.
Governor Obiano revealed that teachers and all workers in the state will get a bag of rice each as well as receive their salaries and leave allowances before the fifteenth of this month, adding that the promotion of deserving workers has been factored in in the 2017 budget which he recently presented to the state House of Assembly.
He explained that all his administration is doing towards improving the welfare of the teachers is to keep them motivated to ensure that they keep putting in their best in producing the best students and expressed the hope that the building will help address some of the challenges facing the ASUBEB.
The Commissioner for Education, Prof Kate Omenugha said the State education sector, driven by the strategic vision of the present administration to ensure that the learning needs of all are met, has continued to record numerous advancements, and commended Governor Obiano for remaining true to his promise to turn around the sector.
Prof Omenugha noted that with what the Obiano administration has done towards improving the teachers’ welfare, they owe it the duty to continue to support it to ensure that they continue to enjoy such largesse.
In an address, the Chairman of ASUBEB, Chief Nzemeka Olisa who noted that the project was executed with little resources in keeping with the stance of the present administration on doing more with less thanked the governor for his support that has enabled the Board to function effectively.
Formal inauguration of the project as well as inspection of the facility formed the highpoints of the event.
