Communities affected by flooding in Anambra state will receive more interventions from United Nations Children’s Fund – UNICEF.

 

Speaking at Umuoba Anam Anambra West Council Area, the UNICEF Field Officer in charge of South East and South-South Zones, Mrs Juliet Chiluwe regretted that no fewer than six hundred persons died and one point three million rendered homeless as a result of the flooding that ravaged most parts of the country.

Mrs Chluwe explained that the various items donated to Anambra state government including one hundred drums of chlorine for disinfection of water sources,forty cartons of aquatabs for Household water treatment and three hundred and twenty cartons of ready to be use therapeutic Food would help to meet immediate needs of the people and prevent some health challenges.

 

She said the visit would help assess the damages done to the place by flooding and assistance needed by the community.

UNICEF Health specialist , Dr ifenyinwa Anyanyo sensitized women and children on how to start drinking clean and purified and distributed aquatabs for water purification.

 

The UNICEF team during the sensitization visit to the area assured the people that arrangement is ongoing to ensure that they received drugs and other interventions .

Responding, the chairman Mmeve Ruling Council Umuoba Anam Comrade Gabriel Ndife appreciate the work UNICEF is doing in their community, especially in protecting and promoting health and welfare of children and women, education immunization and the reduction of infant an maternal mortality.

 

Highlight of the visit was a demonstration carried by UNICEF representative Mr Andy Nwanze on how to use aquatabs for purification of water.
