Rotary International District 9142 in collaboration with Rotary Club of Wuse two Abuja and Exness group has flagged off the 2022 flood disaster relief intervention in Nigeria, at Ogbaru Local Government Area.

 

Flagging off the programme at Central School Atani, over two thousand persons, both aged and young, benefited from the intervention which featured medical outreach, distribution of relief materials and empowerment of widows.

The beneficiaries were selected from the sixteen communities in the local government area.

 

Bags of rice, garri, mosquito nets and other packages worth over five million Naira were distributed, including twenty thousand Naira each to over twenty widows.

The District Governor of Rotary International District 9142, Mrs. Grace Okaro, who had earlier paid a courtesy visit to the traditional ruler of Atani community, Igwe Azuka Ngody, sympathized with the flood victims and said that the intervention was part of the measures to assist the communities affected by the 2022 flooding to start a new life.

 

Mrs. Okaro who disclosed that the intervention will extend to other local governments affected by the deluge, appealed to the people to stop building on waterways,and called on the government to dredge the Niger river and all its tributaries to ease the impact of the disaster.

The President of Rotary Club of Wuse two Abuja, Princess Justina Oladotun, disclosed that the intervention was necessary to give the communities affected by flood a new hope, maintaining that one of the cardinal objectives of Rotary is to serve humanity.

 

The Key Account Specialist of Exness Group, Mr. Tosin Oluwasanya and Head of Marketing, Mr. Adetayo Kennedy, added that one of the three mantras behind the Corporate Social Responsibilities of the group were education, empowerment and emergencies, hence the rationale for the intervention in partnership with the Rotary.

On behalf of the traditional ruler of Atani, the Palace Administrator of the community, Chief Daniel Nwabueze and President General of Atani, Colonel Paul Izukanne, praised Rotary and Exness Group for coming to their aid and asked them to help plead with the government to dredge the Niger River.

 

Some of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Ngozi Ameshi and Ifeoma Chukwujindu, appreciated their benefactors for their benevolence.
