The December 2022 edition of the monthly sanitation exercise recorded low compliance at Nnewi and its environs.
Sanitation exercise which was observed to enable Ndi Anambra to have clean and healthy environment during the Christmas Season, was part of Governor Soludo’s initiative to make Anambra livable.
While monitoring the exercise at some strategic places within Nnewi and surrounding communities, ABS observed that some people adhered to the directive whereas majority did not, claiming unaware of the fixed exercise.
ABS also witnessed heavy enforcement team comprising of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade, security operatives among others carrying out enforcement measures like restricted movement and joining the exercise proper.
The Transition Committee chairman, Nnewi North Local Government Area, Engineer Chris Obiorah, who monitored and enforced compliance said that Nnewi North is committed to healthy and clean environment.
He regretted the low compliance and called on the people of Nnewi to imbibe the culture of healthy lifestyle through cleanliness and also adhere to government instructions.
For a stakeholder, who was part of the sanitation exercise, Comrade Peter Nwosu, described the exercise as apt as it will help to curtail dirty environment due to the influx of people during Christmas.
On his part, the Anambra South Commander of OCHA Brigade, Mr. Emmanuel Obi, who assured that OCHA Brigade will continue to keep the state clean and healthy in and out of season, asked the people to collaborate with them by being law abiding.
ABS visited Nkwo Nnewi, Ibeto Junction, Orie-Agbo Market, Nnewi Round About, Izuchukwu Junction and Traffic Light among others during the exercise.
