Governor Chukwuma Soludo has assured that his administration will revitalize the health sector of the state for the benefit of the residents.
The Governor stated this while inaugurating the Third State Council Meeting on Health organized in Awka by the state Ministry of Health in collaboration with her partners including the World Health Organization.
Governor Soludo who was represented by his Deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim said that his administration is committed to giving the State residents sustainable healthcare services, and called for a joint effort in the move towards transformation of the health care system of the state.
Governor Soludo asked the participants at the event to device a means to assist in strengthening the health sector.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidikein his speech expressed the hope that the gathering will come up with viable solutions to most of the challenges facing the state health sector to compliment the efforts of the Professor Chukwuma Soludo led administration.
In separate interviews, South East Zonal Coordinator World Health Organization, Dr Chukwumuanya Igbokwu and Anambra state Co-ordinator of the Organization, Dr Adamu Hamza while promising that the World Health Organization will continue to support Anambra state health sector, recommended that the state government should increase its budget for health financing, make primary healthcare centres in the state more functional and equipped.
In a presentation, a keynote speaker at the event, Professor Obinna Onwujekwe, a Professor of Health Economics, System and Policy in the Department of Health Administration and Management at the University of Nigeria, tasked Anambra state government on a new Anambra healthcare policy, pointing out that the state and federal government should endeavour to do the needful in ensuring that the lapses in the health sector as exposed by the recent COVID-19 pandemic outbreak are corrected.
The event which attracted health professionals from both public and private health sector had its theme as “Resilient and Sustainable Health System for Anambra state: Opportunities and Way Forward”.
