Three-Day INEC Town Hall Meeting with all the Traditional Rulers and Presidents General of the three senatorial zones in Anambra State has ended with a charge on the leaders to take full responsibility of political grassroot sensitization for the successful conduct of the 2023 general election.
Addressing the last batch of Traditional Rulers and PGs from Anambra South Senatorial Zone at INEC Headquarters Awka, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Queen Elizabeth Agwu, described Voter Education as a key component to a successful election process and urged them to live up to their social responsibility as leaders.
Dr. Agwu while lamenting the Security Vulnerability of their workers in the areas, pleaded with them to work assiduously as leaders to ensure that they rid their areas of bad gangs and provide a conducive environment for INEC to do their jobs creditably during the election period.
She restated the preparedness of INEC to conduct the free and credible election in the State, noting that the success of the upcoming election would enhance the corporate existence of the country.
Dr. Agwu while debunking the Social Media propaganda of thumb printing before PVC Collection said that they need to sign their signatures to authenticate the collection.
In his Remarks, the Chairman Traditional Rulers Council, Anambra South, and the Traditional Ruler of Ezinifite, Igwe Bob Orji, thanked the New Management of INEC in Anambra State for initiating the New Political Awareness Strategy for the three Senatorial Zones respectively and assured them that they will not only step down the information garnered to the grassroots level but also ensure they provide a conducive environment for INEC to conduct peaceful elections in their Zones.
The Chairman of PGs from Anambra South Senatorial Zone, Mr Dennis Muomaife in his remarks, accepted that though they have security challenges in their areas, the situation is presently under control since they have already set motions on course to curb the insecurity menace through consultations and setting up of Committees.
Other PGs who spoke during the interactive session further pleaded with the INEC Boss to involve them alongside political parties in the procedure of the distribution of sensitive materials during the election period to take full responsibility for the electoral process in their domains.
In a vote of thanks, the State INEC Administrative Secretary, Mr. Jude Okwuonu while appreciating the leaders for honoring the invitation, urged them to take full advantage of the meeting by initiating aggressive grassroots mobilization.
