Miss Ozioma Ekemezie has emerged the overall winner of the second edition of cooking competition organised for girls in Adazi-Nnukwu.
The cooking competition was held at Ekeabani Women’s Hall, Adazi-Nnukwu, Anaocha Local Government Area.
The event which was organized by Adazi Nnukwu Women Wing led by the Woman Leader of the community Mrs Mitchell Onugbolu was sponsored by an indigene of the community based in United states of America, Mrs Franca Ofordile.
The keenly contested cooking competition which began in Easter 2022, featured again in August,2022 and December 2022 where the first three positions were selected in each of the outings to participate in the grand finale.
At the end, Miss Ozioma Ekemezie took the first position while Miss Kosisochukwu Belonwu took the second position and Miss Favour Iloanusi took the third position after cooking the native Onugbu soup each.
Presenting a cash of one hundred thousand naira to the winner, seventy thousand naira to the first runner up and fifty thousand to the second runner up respectively, the President General of the community, Chief Cyril Aneto, commended the organisers and sponsor for the initiative which he said will go a long way to reshape girls of the community.
The sponsor Mrs Ofordile went down memory lane on how she started, tutored the participants on how best to make Onugbu soup.
Mrs Ofordile explained that her aim was to put an end to cases of divorce resulting from lack of good cooking skills among girls especially Igbo families abroad, stating that she is tired of cooking home meals for families because the women cannot cook good food for their families.
The Woman Leader of the community, Mrs Onugbolu and the chairman planning committee Mrs Amaka Obianonwo appreciated the sponsor for deeming it fit to start early to groom girls of the community to be good wives and mothers in future, promising to improve on preparations of next edition of the program.
A total of eight girls and one boy took part in the competition which kicked off last Easter with thirty participants, while the remaining six participants at the finals went home with a cash gift of ten thousand naira each.
