Dr Chinweze Ezeanwu from Agbolagbo Village Nsugbe, Anambra East Council Area have been elected the President General of Nsugbe Development Union.

 

Dr Ezeanwu polled 55 votes to defeat his opponent, Mr Ikechukwu Nwalunor who got 29 votes.

The election which was conducted through secret balloting held at Community Primary School, Ugwu-Oyibo, Nsugbe.

 

Five delegates each represented the nineteen branches of Nsugbe Development Union.

A delegation from the Ministry Of Local Government, Chieftaincy And Community Affairs led by Mr Mike Okechi was on ground with heavy security personnel led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police in charge of 3-3 Division, Idum Gabriel to monitor the election and ensure safety of voters during and after the elections.

 

The election was also conducted under the watch of representatives of the traditional ruler of Nsugbe, Igwe Victor Ntorka and his cabinet, Ndi Eze Nsugbe, women and youth wings and as well as the candidates themselves.

Speaking shortly after the election, the team leader from Ministry Of Local Government, Mr Okechi said he observed that the people of Nsugbe have decided on the part of unity and development as the election was free, fair and credible.

 

He cautioned against tampering with the popular mandate of Ndi Nsugbe

Addressing Ndi Nsugbe, a stakeholder in the community, Dr KC Emoh expressed satisfaction over the election, noting that this will bring development and peace to the community.

 

Dr Emoh charged the new executive to address the security challenges facing the community and pleaded with those fomenting trouble to have a rethink and work with the new executive for the progress of the community.

The first Indegenous priest of Nsugbe, Reverend Father Innocent Acho-Egbunike who supervised the electoral process thanked God for the success of the election, stating that Nsugbe have spoken and as such, peace, progress and unity will prevail in the community.

 

Father Acho-Egbunike commended the Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration for setting the pace for unity and oneness in all the communities of the state.

 

In his acceptance speech, the new President General of Nsugbe Development Union, Dr Ezeanwu thanked Ndi Nsugbe for believing in him, assuring out that the new executive will start with reconciliation of all the aggrieved parties in the community so as to achieve a common cause predicated on peace, brotherliness and oneness

The Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Legal Matters, Barrister Tobechukwu Nweke who is from the community donated a brand new Sienna bus to Nsugbe Development Union to be used for security purposes in the community.

 

The new executive are Dr Chinweze Ezeanwu- President General, Nnamdi Nweke-Secretary General, JohnPaul Mozie-Assistance Secretary General, Onochie Obiudu-Financial Secretary, Nzekwesi Dibua-Treasurer and Ikechukwu Obiagwu-Public Relations Officer.

 

Others are Ginikanwa Muokwe- first vice president general, Ebochina George-second vice president general, Nwoye Chukwudi – Provost One and Clement Ekwego – Second Provost.
