Reconstruction work has progressed on the Club street -Ngozika and Regina-Caeli -Old INEC-Y-junction road in Awka.

ABS Works correspondent Ngozi Obileri who visited the sites reports that men of the Niger Cat construction company, the firm handling the project were seen at various points discharging their duties, as stone base and MC One have been completed from the Ngozika end of the road to the beginning of Club street by Regine-Caeli junction.

Also, a stone base has been laid from the Club Street junction close to One City Supermarket axis of Old INEC Road, Awka.

Speaking to the ABS, the Commissioner for Works Engineer Ifeanyi Okoma who was on the spot visit to witness first hand the pace and quality of work on the roads said that he was on the visit with other key players in monitoring and evaluation as Governor Chukwuma Soludo is bent on quality assurance and completion of the work.

Engineer Okoma regretted that residents of the area are disposing debris on the roads and drainages even while work is ongoing, and called on those involved to retrace their steps for their own good.

The Chairman Anambra State Urban Regeneration Council, Architect Mike Okonkwo said that he is happy that the road which cuts across two local government areas, Awka South and Awka North is receiving quality attention, noting that the quality of the stone base alone has not been seen in the state before even as he commended Governor Soludo for insisting on quality work.

On indiscriminate dumping of refuse inside drainages and along the road, Architect Okonkwo stressed the need for a taskforce to be constituted to apprehend anyone defacing the environment with debris especially on roads that are under construction noting that it is barbaric to engage in such unlawful acts.

One of the site Engineers for Niger Cat, Engineer Chanbel said that they are working steadily to meet the target time and that in the next two weeks, they would lay asphalt on the road, even as he urged road users to be patient with them because the roads are very busy.

A tricycle driver Mr. Edwin Amala expressed happiness with the quality of work on the roads and pledged their total support to Governor Soludo, urging him not to relent.
