Culture and tradition of Urum community in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra state were at the peak as the sixteen newly inducted members of the prestigious Ozo society of Urum Anike Ancient kingdom embarked on market outing, which is the last ritual to fully become an Ozo title holder in the town.

 

The market outing ceremony, which was done at Oye Urum, and later concluded at Community Primary School field in Urum, attracted members of the community, as well as people from neighboring communities and beyond; who came to felicitate with the new ndi Ozo Uru Anike Ancient Kingdom.

During the outing ceremony, the sixteen new Ozo title holders, who were from the villages that make up the community; Akaeze, Akitinyi, Umuifie, and Ifite-ora, according to the culture and tradition of the community, took turns to go round the Oye Urum market, after which they returned to Community Primary School field to dance ufie rhythms, and later retired to their respective homes where they entertained their various guests who came from far and wide.

For one to become an Ozo title holder in Urum Anike Ancient Kingdom, he must pass through some stages, including Igbu Amanwulu, Igbu Ichi, Ogbagba Ajuke, Isi Nri Ekwu, Isi Nri Isualor, Isi Nri Ogwu na Ogbe, Isi Nri Oba, Isi Nri ntubaji na Oba, Igbu Efi Emem, Idana Emem and then Opupu Afia Ozo.

In a speech, the traditional ruler of Urum community, Igwe Benedict Nweke, while describing Ozo title as one of the major things that make Igbo culture and tradition unique and glorious, asked Ndi Urum not to allow their culture to go into extinction, and commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his support to traditional institutions in the state since he assumed office, even as he called on him to construct roads connecting Urum community with other communities, as according to him, bad road is the major problem facing the community presently.

Addressing the new Ozo title holders in Urum, the Chairman of Ozo Urum society, Chief Luis Umegbolu, urged them to be good ambassadors of the group and strictly adhere to all the tenets guiding members.

 

In their various remarks, some of the new Ozo title holders, including the crowned Prince of the community, Chief Raymond Okafor; with Ozo Chinagbaluogu as title name, Chief Goddy Mmadubueze; known as Ozo mma,

Chief Arinze Oraekie, Ozo Nwanne di na mba, Chief Alex Onwubiko, Ozo Akachialor, and Chief Michael Uzoukwu, Ozo Ochiliozuo, expressed happiness in joining the Ozo Urum society, saying that they decided to take the Ozo title as a way of contributing to the efforts to retain Igbo culture, which according to them, remains the best across the globe.

 

Others, including Chief Nnamdi Umeadi; Ewenete Ozo, Chief Christian Aniebonam; Ozo Kwubaakaotor, whose parents, Chief Ndidi and Lolo Victoria Aniebonam represented at the event, Chief Chukwunonso Okafor; Ozo Ikpoaku, and Chief Onyeka Echetabu, promised to use their new position to continue contributing their quotas in the development, peace and unity of Urum community, and abide by rules guiding Ozo Urum society at all times.

Some stakeholders in the community and neighboring Amanuke town, including former Deputy Chairman of Awka North Council Area, Mr. George Oranekwulu, Mr. Patrick Okolo, and Chief Charles Nnanwude, advised the new Ozo Urum members to represent truth and peace at all times; which the Ozo society is known for over the years, expressing hope that through them, Ozo Urum and entire Urum community will be taken to a higher level.
