Political leaders and Nigerian citizens have been urged to emulate the ideals of first Nigerian Minister of Aviation, Chief Mbazulike Amechi.
The collective view of sympathizers who gathered at the International Convention Centre, Awka, during a National Day of Tribute held in honour of the first republic Minister organized by the Anambra State Government.
Chief Amechi, an indigene of Ukpor in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, and renowned by his nickname, “The Boy is Good”, was until his death; the last surviving Minister of the first republic, and played a pivotal role in the fight for independence.
The late Chief Amechi, who transited to eternal glory on All Saints Day, first November 2022, has been laid to rest today in his hometown, Ukpor.
Taking turns to pay their tribute to the legendary icon known for his patriotic efforts to entrench freedom in Nigeria, attendees at the event, including government officials, friends, well-wishers and mentees, eulogized the dignified and patriotic life of the former Minister and author.
Notably, the state Commissioner for Culture, Tourism and Entertainment, Comrade Don Onyenji, and his Environment counterpart, Dr Felix Odimegwu, described the late Mbazulike as a hero, who stood for the truth at all times and extended fatherly care and advice to all who came into contact with him.
They urged leaders and Nigerians to emulate the late Chief Mbazulike Amaechi’s standards of truthfulness, courage, accountability, and integrity.
On his part, former President General of Ukpor community, Mr. Emma Nwachukwu, and Mr. Jude Emecheta, described the deceased as a courageous, hardworking and humble nationalist, a true definition of a patriot; whose vision had always been for the greater good of Nigeria.
Thanking everyone who came, Mr. Tagbo Ameachi noted that his father was a good and selfless man; who directed all who came in contact with him.
