For the promotion of core values and sustainable development of the state, the Anglican Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim has said that Anambra needs young intelligent people with character and clear-cut vision like Professor Chukwuma Soludo and his Deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim.

Speaking at the end of the 2023 Annual Retreat Conference of Awka Diocesan Council of Laity held at Saint John’s Church Okpuno, which coincided with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s town hall meeting to mark his one year in office, Bishop Ibezim, however reminded Ndi Anambra that the Soludo administration needs prayers to achieve results as Anambra helmsman, and called for political unity in the Southeast in order to achieve common goal.

Observing that Nigeria is at crossroads, the Anglican prelate equally explained that man can only through prayer and righteousness move heaven to hasten the plan of God.

He reminded Christians that God does not want man to die in his fallen nature, adding that when a man’s hope is in Christ, eternity is assured.

Earlier in a church service for the annual event with the theme, “Do not give up”, the Chaplain, Awka Diocesan Council of Laity, Venerable Samuel Okonkwo, among other things, reminded Christians that faith, humility and perseverance beget exaltation as seen in the life of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Samaritan woman and blind Bartimaeus in the scripture, urging them to remain steadfast in the heavenly race.

Vicar of St. John’s Church Okpuno, Reverend Canon Dr. Onyeka Egwuonwu said the event offered opportunity to study the word of God and strengthen faith, and thanked all who contributed to the success of the event.

In their remarks, the President, Awka Diocesan Council of Laity, Sir Emma Ezenwaji, and the Chairman of Local Organising Committee of the event, Dr. Chijioke Uneze, who commended growth of the church in the diocese, called on participants to take home the charges given to them at the event.

Delegates at the conference, including the Chairman Parish Council of Laity, Saint Andrew’s Church Abba, Honourable Chinedu Okafocha, Mrs Uchenna Akpuafor, from Cathedral Church of Saint Faith Awka, and Mr. Obinna Okonkwo, from Immanuel Church Adazi-Enu, said the event was not only spiritually energizing, but enriched participants with wisdom and knowledge for result-oriented stewardship in local churches, especially in this challenging time.
