Anambra State Government says it is seeking to partner the federal government and development partners to tackle erosion menace.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra State Erosion, Watershed and Climate Change Agency, ANSEWCCA, Professor Philip Phil-Eze, disclosed this while speaking with ABS Environment Correspondent Blessing Uchendu, in Awka.
Professor Phil-Eze, who revealed that there are about one thousand erosion sites in the state, emphasized that the state’s budget alone cannot service them hence, the move by government to adopt strategic approach.
He said that ANSEWCCA was set up to look into erosion menace in the state as well as draw public attention to the need to adopt environment-friendly practices in order to check climate challenges, adding that the agency has been reaching out to international donors and the federal government for assistance.
He said that Professor Chukwuma Soludo, being passionate about the environment which is one of the pillars of his development agenda, awarded contract to MPI infrastructure to quickly commence palliative works at Oko Erosion site.
While noting that the Ekwueme Square Gully Erosion challenge is threatening both federal and state institutions, the ANSEWCCA Boss, called for urgent attention from federal government.
He enjoined all communities in Anambra State to have erosion committee for them to be in the vanguard of environmental protection to achieve Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of making Anambra Environment cleaner, greener and planned.
