The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, ANAN, has held its second session of Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Programme and Induction of new members in Awka, Anambra State capital.

 

The three-day programme commenced with a road walk with members led by the Anambra State branch Chairperson, Mrs Nkechi Ofoedu and walked through Aroma junction areas creating awareness for the event.

The event which held at the Anambra State International Convention Centre, Awka drew participants from within and outside Anambra, political appointees, and the academia.

 

In his keynote address at the opening session, the National President of ANAN, Professor Ben Osisioma, while recounting the success stories of the council since inception, made it clear that the council members are committed to the economic transformation of Nigeria.

Professor Osisioma who said that they have resolved to secure privilege spaces for their members, added that ANAN has a lot to thank God for, even as he commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for bringing stability in Anambra State.

 

In his remarks, the representative of Governor Soludo who is also his Chief of Staff, Mr Ernest Ezeajughi, described Anambra as a centre of commerce and one of the Nigerian states where economic development is scattered across the state.

Mr Ezeajughi explained that the Soludo administration has done much in terms of security, economic transformation and human capital development aimed at getting people who will be exportable all over the world and expressing satisfaction that the programme is aimed at continuous improvement of professionals, noting that the quality of professional accountants in Anambra State workforce is quite encouraging and urged them to do more in whichever sector they find themselves.

 

Earlier in her welcome address, the Anambra State branch Chairperson of ANAN, Mrs Nkechi Ofoedu, who mentioned various areas Anambra State is blessed by nature, also pointed out that Anambra has produced three national presidents of ANAN since inception even as she recounted the activities and achievements of the council in the state.

She appreciated the members for their overwhelming support to her, their commitment to the council through prompt payment of their dues and wished all the participants fruitful deliberations during their stay.

 

For the chairman of the Programme Committee, Chief Chinatu Anyanwu, the MCPD is a mandatory professional programme aimed at equipping accountants with what is happening in the accounting world and it is done six times in the year across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.

 

Others who spoke during the event include Mr Kayode Olusola, Dr Osho Ejededawe, Mrs Geraldine Mbadike, Mr Kelvin Amasiagba among others.

 

The event which has its theme as “Changes and Advances in Public Sector Accounting”, featured induction of new members, award presentation, presentation of souvenir to Governor Soludo, cultural dance, among other side attractions.
