All is now set for the May 2023 Adult Open Heart Surgery powered by the Sir Emeka Okwuosa Foundation, SEOF, in partnership with VOOM Foundation USA. The critical intervention medicare kicks off on Friday 12th May to 26th May, 2023 at the Dame Irene Okwuosa Memorial Hospital, Oraifite. The hospital is a multi-million dollar health institution that specializes in critical care management and automated surgery procedures.

The medical intervention programme will feature defect repairs, ventricular septal repairs and other critical cardiac defect repairs with cardiac catheterization. A team of doctors from USA will be on ground to carry out the surgeries which are heavily subsidized, courtesy of Sir Emeka Okwuosa Foundation.

As part of the foundation’s commitment to make accessible and affordable health care services available to people of South East and Nigerians in general, a community health outreach exercise where members of the community will access health care services completely free of charge will also feature in this medical mission. The medical personnel of Dame Irene Okwuosa Memorial Hospital and VOOM foundation USA will render medical services which will include routine consultation, basic laboratory investigations, treatment for basic health challenges such as diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, tuberculosis, malaria, typhoid and optical issues.

The medical missions of Sir Emeka Okwuosa Foundation have always put smiles on the faces of Nigerians yearning and praying for critical health interventions in cardiovascular ailments. Everyone, including children, gasping for breath over excruciating cost of obtaining medical surgeries and treatments abroad, now has the opportunity of receiving necessary attention at the foundation’s medical missions since the exercise started in 2021. In the last medical mission, working with highly

skilled medical experts in cardiology, nephrology, and critical care from all over the world, the Dame Irene Okwuosa Memorial Hospital performed three open heart surgeries in a day. This summed to a total of 24 Open Heart Surgeries performed successfully in less than 2 weeks. All these were at no cost to the beneficiaries.

This was not all. The partnership further treated 25 critical heart related ailments. The bills for the surgeries and treatments cost over 180 million naira. But the beneficiaries were presented with certificates of discharge without paying a dime.

This feat, invariably, attracted the attention of the Federal Ministry of Health who are now always present at the mission. Adding to this, Sir Emeka Okwuosa Foundation identified lack of essential drugs as one of the major problems confronting healthcare delivery in Nigeria. To this end, the Foundation undertook the provision of critical intervention drugs valued at 168 million naira to selected teaching hospitals in the six geopolitical zones of the country.

No doubt, Sir Emeka Okwuosa Foundation and Dame Irene Okwuosa Memorial Hospital are reaching out for genuine collaborators in the health sector who are interested in its vision of giving Nigerians affordable access to high quality medical and critical care here in Nigeria. The vision has also led the foundation to establish a multi-million naira primary health care unit which will be formally opened during the May 2023 Medical Mission in Oraifite. In fact, there is hope in Nigeria’s medical and health care industry because Sir Emeka Okwuosa Foundation in partnership with VOOM Foundation have helped in guaranteeing life-changing and life-saving health interventions for our people.

Ndi Anambra and Ndi Oraifite in particular cannot thank God enough for raising Engr. Dr. Emeka Okwuosa, Agha Oraifite, philanthropist par excellence from this part of the world.

To God be the glory!
