Over Six hundred new students have been admitted into Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, after taking oath of matriculation and declaration of loyalty to the foremost institution.

 

The event which was held at the college field, was the forty-second matriculation ceremony for students to be offered National Certificate in Education, NCE, and twenty-sixth matriculation for students seeking Bachelors Degree in Education and Professional Diploma in Education.

Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe runs a long-term academic programme affiliated to the University of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN, which gives degree to graduates of the institution, the same qualifications as those of the University of Nigeria.

The Matriculation ceremony which took place at the institution’s main campus, Nsugbe, attracted members of the academia, parents and guardians of the matriculating students and many other visitors.

Addressing the new students who trouped out in large number, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Professor Charles Igwe represented by the Dean, Faculty of Education of the University, Professor Joachim Omeje, reminded the matriculants that their admissions may signify the realization of a dream, but it also opens the door to pursue a bigger dream of earning the degree of the University of Nigeria.

Professor Igwe also noted that the degrees, diplomas and other certificates of the University of Nigeria, are awarded only to those who have been found worthy in character and learning.

 

In her address, the Provost of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Dr Ifeyinwa Osegbo, said that the matriculation finally conferred on the participating students, full membership of the institution, having fulfilled all necessary entrance requirements and warned the matriculants to shun all forms of social vices and other nefarious activities as the institution will not hesitate to sanction anyone found to have breached any of the school’s laws.

Among the matriculating students were Cynthia Sergius, Paschaline Onuora both students of English Education and Paulinus Chukwuemeka of Agric Education, who said they felt elated to be taking their matriculation vows, stating that their choice of the institution was based on its competitive teaching history.

The new students were later administered with the oath of allegiance by the Registrar of University of Nigeria Nsukka, Dr. Celine Nnebedum, represented by the Assistant Registrar, Mrs. Uchenna Ugwu and the Registrar of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, Mr. Godwin Okeke.
