The three point two kilometers Second Niger Bridge linking Delta State and Anambra State has been commissioned today by President Muhammadu Buhari

 

President Buhari Performed the function virtually while other stakeholders gathered at the Asaba end of the bridge to witness the historic event.

Government House Correspondents Valentine Mgbadugha reports that the Bridge which total contract sum amounts to over two hundred billion naira was named after President Muhammadu Buhari.

 

The Federal Secretariat, Awka named after Former Federal Head of Service, Mrs Ebele Okeke was also commissioned by the President.

President Buhari while performing the function virtually said that the projects are part of his commitment to improve on infrastructural development in the country, create employment opportunities and enthrone sustainable economic transformation.

The President further enumerated Social and Economic benefit of the bridge and disclosed that the projects were funded through loans and money recovered from crime.

 

He explained that most of the debt recorded by his administration were tied to infrastructure which has direct impact of the growth of the nation.

The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo in his speech said that the project will be a major economic game changer for the South East, South South and the entire Nigeria.

 

He commended President Buhari for delivering the second Niger Bridge and noting that the bridge has remained one of the major projects the South Eastern part of Nigeria has been agitating for.

According to the Governor, other projects needed to Fast track development in the South East including railway and gas pipeline among others will be presented to Buhari’s successor.

 

The event attracted other Governors including that of Governor Ifeanyi Okowaof of Delta state represented by his Chief of Staff and Imo state Governor, Hope Uzodimma, traditional rulers from the host communities among others.

The unveiling and cutting of tape was done by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige accompanied by Governors, traditional rulers and other critical stakeholders to climax the event.
