Anambra State Head of Service, Barrister Theodorah Igwegbe, says nurses and midwives hold pivotal roles in the society.
Barrister Igwegbe made this assertion during the induction of the newly elected unit branches and their executives by the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, Anambra State Council at the Nurses’ House, Awka.
Declaring the two-day event open, Barrister Igwegbe said that the victory of the inductees is evidence of their commitment to service to Ndi Anambra and Nigeria at large.
While lauding their unwavering dedication, compassion and achievements in service to God and humanity, Barrister Igwegbe reminded them that they are now entrusted with the responsibilities of representing the interest of their members at all times and urged them to use the opportunity to foster the culture of collaboration and innovation, even as she promised that government will always prioritize their welfare.
The state chairman of the association, Comrade Edith Onwuka, assured that they are committed to delivering on their promises and leaving behind a strong association for the interest of their members.
Comrade Onwuka commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his purposeful leadership and investment in the health sector and appealed to the Governor to look into the salaries of nurses and midwives to curb the massive exodus of trained nurses to abroad.
For Anambra State Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Humphrey Nwafor, who was the chairman on the occasion and was represented by the chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Anambra State Council, Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, urged them to always place life first in discharging their duties.
Two of the inductees, Messers Enwerekowe Onyinye, from Nnamdi Azikiwe University Medical Centre and Vincent Ndive, from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka, promised to discharge their duties with high sense of professionalism and responsibility, while prioritizing the welfare of their members.
