Governor Chukwuma Soludo has assured children of sustained efforts towards protection and enforcement of child rights as enshrined in the constitution .

 

Governor Soludo was speaking during the 2023 National Children’s Day Celebration held at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, in Awka.

The Governor who also spoke on other issues surrounding children including examination malpractice, cultism, drug abuse, child marriage, child labour, among others, stressed that the future of a liveable and prosperous homeland belongs to the children.

 

He assured that Anambra is on course of building a fair society where children have great opportunities to actualize their God-given potential and called on them to grow up as responsible children who will become global ambassadors, helping to build the dream society.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Ify Obinabo who gave a background to the celebration stressed the urgent need to inculcate in children, correct and acceptable values through conscious re-orientation.

 

Mrs. Obinabo noted that such re-orientation will equip children to become future leaders of tomorrow, calling all well meaning Nigerians to join in reshaping children’s mindset so that they can contribute in making the society a better place .

In their separate goodwill messages, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Uchenna Okafor and Anambra State Chief Judge, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu reminded the people of child rights and protection law which he said has special privileges.

 

They reminded the people that anyone who defiles a child, will receive life imprisonment as sanction and called on children to remain hardworking and focused.

Wife of the Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim and his wife, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, members of the state executive Council and members of Anambra Children’s parliament, among others attended the ceremony which featured Calestenics and acrobatic displays as well as match past by Anambra children.
