The Transition Committee Chairman, Njikoka Local Government Area, Mr Clement Aguiyi has decried poor enrolment in some schools in Njikoka which he said does not justify government investment in those schools.
Mr Aguiyi made his feelings known when he paid an unscheduled visit to Primary schools in the council area .
The schools visited include Oganiru Primary school, Obioma Primary school and Anadima Primary school all in Enugwu-Agidi.
The visit was part of his administrations resolve to promote quality education and putting the people first.
Mr Aguiyi expressed sadness that in spite of the progressive intervention of Governor Chukwuma Soludo in Education whereby over five thousand well qualified teachers have been recruited and the schools well staffed, yet people are not taking advantage of the opportunity to give a better and brighter future to their children.
He advised parents who had withdrawn their children from schools when there were no teachers and put the children into forced labor to quickly return them back to school to avoid the clutches of the law as the council in conjunction with communities will soon embark on enrollment drive and also clamp down on parents whose children are out of school.
Mr Aguiyi emphasized that Universal Basic Education is relatively free in the state and that parents have no reason not to have their children in schools.
He urged major stakeholders to adopt a school and help in the co-ordination of infrastructural improvement as government alone cannot resolve all of the challenges faced by the sector.
